Argentine Wedding: Sheila & Ignacio
I heard the request for a host family during the morning school announcements and for the remainder of first period I couldn't focus on anything else. After the bell, I ran to the main office, grabbed a flier with a grainy photo of the student and begged my parents to let her come and live with us. Relentlessly. A mere four weeks later, I stood at the airport bursting with excitement and a sign that read, "Bienvenidos Sheila!" Little did I know then that 14 years later, she would be waiting for me at the Buenos Aires airport just in time for us to attend and photograph her & Ignacio's wedding.
It's been super neat (Yup. Neat. I think it has a nice ring, I'm trying to bring it back) to have Sheila in my life. Don't get me wrong...it wasn't always rainbows and sunshine. I wasn't used to sharing...and sometimes we fought like siblings. She's also pretty scrappy--all five feet of her could can take me down anytime. But now that we're adults we seem to have more in common than I ever imagined we would. I'm so glad we were able to travel to Argentina and spend time with her, meet Ignacio, and all the family and friends I'd heard so much about.
When Eli and I talked about photographing this wedding I was adamant about covering it the way we cover most weddings. And then Eli said (like he does), "This isn't most weddings." And with that, we photographed this wedding without a timeline, a shot list, or any other information. We decided to let the event unfold and we'd just go with the flow. Know what? I didn't break out in hives or anything, you guys. Since we didn't cover this wedding like we do most weddings, I'm not going to blog it like most weddings. I'm just going to share my favorite images from different parts of the festivities so stay tuned because they had a pretty bangin' party that didn't end until 8am...
