Matt & Trib's Chicago Wedding

Eli and I love shooting in other cities so Matt & Trib's wedding gave us the perfect opportunity to shoot in Chicago over the summer. They live in Chicago where Trib is a lawyer and Matt is an English teacher. They share a love of whiskey cocktails, amazing food, and J.Crew.  Last fall, Matt proposed to Trib at one of their favorite whiskey bars, Longman & Eagle.  The restaurant/bar is also home to a hip boutique hotel; Matt surprised Trib with a surprise getaway on the night of their engagement.  Lucky for us, Longman and Eagle provided an awesome backdrop for wedding preparations...and Eli and I can't wait to go back soon. Their ceremony and reception was held at Salvage One in Chicago and was officiated by one of Trib's former professors. Their vows were heartfelt, intentional and, at times, comic.  One friend read, "I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone" by Richard Brautigan while another read from, "Goodridge Vs Department of Health" by Massachusetts Supreme Court Chief  Justice Margaret H. Marshall.  The decision in Goodridge Vs Department of Public Health was the first by a U.S. state's highest court to find that same-sex couples had the right to marry. Eli and I were so moved by the reading we thought it'd be cool to share an excerpt here:

Marriage is a vital social institution. The exclusive commitment of two individuals to each other nurtures love and mutual support; it brings stability to our society. For those who choose to marry, and for their children, marriage provides an abundance of legal, financial, and social benefits. In return it imposes weighty legal, financial, and social obligations....Without question, civil marriage enhances the "welfare of the community." It is a "social institution of the highest importance." Marriage also bestows enormous private and social advantages on those who choose to marry. Civil marriage is at once a deeply personal commitment to another human being and a highly public celebration of the ideals of mutuality, companionship, intimacy, fidelity, and family.... Because it fulfils yearnings for security, safe haven, and connection that express our common humanity, civil marriage is an esteemed institution, and the decision whether and whom to marry is among life's momentous acts of self-definition.

Nice, right?  In addition to being stylish and cool, Matt and Trib are also thoughtful and warm hearted--which we think is extra awesome.

After cocktails, everyone moved upstairs to celebrate over a delicious dinner, more cocktails, and, pie.  The night concluded with hours of one of our favorite things: dancing.
